Eskrima is a Filipino fighting art that teaches striking, slashing and trapping skills with an emphasis on speed and fluid movements. Used for hundreds of years in life or death situations, the Filipino art of Eskrima offers some of the most sophisticated edged-weapon defense methods known. With techniques from the Filipinos, Moros, Spanish, Chinese, Malay, etc., Eskrima offers students a wide range of self-defense skills.
Students will learn to use double stick, single stick, knife, sword, knife and sword, as well as an assortment of empty-hand tactics, both against armed and unarmed assailants.
The name Doce Pares was adopted in reference to a famous group of bodyguards who protected Emperor Charlemagne of France (AD 768-814). These twelve people were renown as top swordsmen and were known to have vanquished hundreds of enemies in battle.
